Mythological creatures have been around for millennia and found everywhere in all kinds of places, all continents and all races. Some of those creatures are described very similarly all over the world and some are specific to certain areas and people. Dragons are one of the most popular mythological creature and has existed in folklore for thousands of years. They are four-legged scaled creatures with bat-like wings enabling them to fly. They usually are capable of breathing fire although some have been known to breath ice or even poison. They are highly intelligent and can be either malevolent or benevolent. In many eastern cultures, dragons do not have wings and they are considered good luck. Most dragons are said to live thousands of years and some believe them to be immortal. Gargoyles are strong, fearsome creatures that come in many various shapes, sizes and species. Many believe they are grotesque looking as they can have human-type faces or animal faces with wings, as well as arms and legs. They can protector your home and belongings from evil spirits and statues of them are frequently located in the bell towers of some churches for just that reason. They are able to turn to stone while they slumber in the daytime and they come to life at night since they are nocturnal. They were said to roam the earth before man did and they can live centuries. A harpy is pretty much a crazy evil creature that is not very family oriented so if you bring one home, you do not want to have them anywhere near your kids. They will eat your dog and use your cat as a weapon. These creatures are half human, half bird with sharp claws. Their name means ‘snatchers’ and they steel food from victims while they are eating. They are also tasked with carrying away evil-doers. They are known to abduct people and torture them before carrying them away to Tartarus. Harpies are considered very cruel and vicious. A Chupacabra is a blood-sucking beast that is large, with a spiked spine and apparently some pretty big fangs. The name literally means goat sucker as these beings are said to suck the blood out of goats and chickens leaving several puncture wounds on their necks big enough to fit a human finger through. Sightings have been reported in newspapers since the 1950s. Beware if you go swimming in Japan for if you come across a Kappa – you will surely be doomed. A Kaapa is a yokai – or a demonic, human-like amphibious creature who lurkes in water just waiting to find it’s next victim to drown. They have webbed hands and feet plus a turtle-like shell. They are knows to be tricksters and can be quite violent towards humans. They are extremely clever and cunning. The djinn are a race of beings that were created before man and made from fire. They are said to be dangerous demon-type beings. Some cultures refer to them as genies. They prefer to live in areas uninhabited by man such as a desert, cemeteries and ruins. Some djinn are not evil but they all have a talent for instilling fear in people. If you should ever come across one – do not show your fear as they will attack – just like a dog. Aqrabuamelu, also known as scorpion beings, are said to have been created by the primordial goddess of the ocean Tiamat in order to wage war. It’s origins came from Mesopotamian mythology. They have the body of a humanoid from the waste up but from the waste down, they resemble a scorpion. They are said to be very enormous and are very war-like in their personality. They are strong-willed, fierce and unrelenting. You just never know how they may react to you if you should come across one. Depending on how they feel about you they could be disdainful, indifferent or very hostile. Their tail is extremely powerful with a sharp poisonous barb that they can stab and kill you with. Run like mad! The Kludde is a scary shouting monster better known as the terrifying tormentor. Many describe this monster as a big dog with huge claws that walks on its hind legs sporting crimson eyes. They have wings and scales as well, so some claim it to be a water demon. It is super fast so there is no outrunning it. It is said that this beast is conjured from the cremated body of witches and if you were to kill it – seven more would be born of its corpse. This beast has the ability to shape shift into many things such as other animals, birds and even trees. Unicorns are beautiful creatures that resemble a horse with a large, single pointed horn in the middle of its forehead. This horn can also be referred to as an alicorn. The unicorn has been one of the more popular mythological creatures due to its beauty and magnificence and their horn is said to be able to purify almost anything – including poison. The unicorns power is one of divinity that nurtures all living things. These mystical creatures date back as far as 15,000 BCE but in the west, these animals were popular since the 5th century. Unicorns are incredibly strong and they hold the power to divine truth. They don’t like liars so beware – If you lie around a unicorn, it will pierce your heart with its horn. They are strong so they can kill an elephant. The unicorn is very family oriented and will mate for life. They like to live in a peaceful way so they go out of their way to find the deepest parts of a wooded area or an uninhabited place. Unicorns do eat but they don’t have to as they can absorb prana and life force energy from the sun. The abatwa are very teeny tiny fairies who originated in Africa in Zulu mythology. These tiny fairies are smaller than an ant and they just happen to use ants as their horse. They love ants so much that they live along side of them. The abatwa are quite shy but don’t let that fool you. They are mighty warriors and use poison arrows and darts to protect themselves since it would be so easy to step on one of them. If they get you with one of their poison darts, it could mean the death of you. These creatures were said to have been born of the tears from VashNok, the shining holy mother – a worshiped nature spirit who created the world from clay and clouds. She cried from the beauty of what she created which formed these beings and the elephant ants that they so adore. Only children, animals and magic practitioners can see these beings. It is still considered the tears of VashNok when it rains due to all the beauty in the world. In Hades, there are creatures who serve the goddess Hecate and they are known ad lampades – infernal nymphs. The lampades are lamp-bearers, servants and companions to Hecate and their lamps, or torches light the way during their nightly travels and hauntings. These spirits are ones of prophecy and of justice and they are quite capricious towards humans. If they do not like you, their torch can easily drive you mad but if they do like you, they can impart hidden information to you. If you find yourself on the bad end of a lampades whim, you can try to appeal to Hecate, the Greek goddess of magic, crossroads, the night, ghosts and necromancy - as they will do what she asks of them - that is, if she likes you. Mythological creatures are quite interesting to say the least and fascinating to boot but just give thought for a minute – what if they were real? In this mysterious and wondrous miracle of a multi-verse – with all of its layers, dimensions, realms and things that we still don’t understand at all – could these creatures simply exist from many millennia ago by just mere imagination or perhaps there was something more advanced at work to bring them into our knowledge?
The human is equipped with their own powers to see into other realms as well so that is another possibility. Humans like everything set out nice and straight-forward for them and anything that goes against the norm is quite unsettling. In the paranormal community – nothing is impossible and there have been millions of people all across time who have been witness to it - even cave dwelling humans who carved pictures on walls to communicate. Allow your mind to open just a little bit more – things are definitely not what they seem at all. If you could be friends with any of these beings from this post – which would it be and why? Let me know in the comments. If you have had any experiences with any of these beings, or any other type of creature, leave a comment or send me a message to the email below.
