Have you ever seen faces on your walls or within your tile floors? Many people have. This phenomena is called pareidolia which is where you can perceive a specific and meaningful image out of a pattern or surface. Sometimes you may hear this same thing being referred to as matrixing which is a bit different. Matrixing is when you can see or hear something where you would least expect it due to our brains interpretation of random patterns looking for something familiar. This is something that I am sure almost everyone has experienced. I see an old lady in my bathroom tile. She just stares up at all of us when we are using the toilet. Of course we all know that it is not really a person in the tile but just appears that way. Tile floor and the faces that can be seen - definitely pareidolia! Now let’s bring this concept into the paranormal realm. It is very easy to just dismiss the majority of paranormal pictures as just pareidolia and matrixing, but is that correct? A skeptic would say – hell yea! The paranormal world is para – normal, meaning not normal or meaning beyond the extension of the senses. This means that you need extrasensory perception or other means in order to perceive the paranormal; so to a person who doesn’t possess psychic skills or the want to seriously explore the paranormal – then the best explanation for their sensory level or level of awareness is the ‘normal’ explanation of pareidolia/matrixing or whatever explanation they need to satisfy their beliefs by placing the label upon it as nonsense. The paranormal will challenge everything you ever thought to be solid and real. Just as a table, certainly beyond a shadow of a doubt, is rock solid to where you could actually break your finger on it if you slam it hard enough. Yet science discovered a long time ago that when you break down the particles of that same rock solid object, it is mostly space. It is comprised of the tiniest moving particles that give it the illusion of solidity, but doesn’t that seem impossible in our physical existence? Of course it does because it is very difficult for people to wrap their heads around something they can’t blatantly see or experience. When you begin to study the paranormal field, you start to see that everything you thought, is not what you thought. The deeper you move into the actual study of specific areas of this subject, you start to witness things that just cannot be explained away by simple terms such as matrixing - hearing voices and seeing things. Working deeply within the paranormal will make you start to question reality, existence and everything you believe in. It is a realm where the infinite exists, where the impossible is possible and where sci-fi meets reality – which isn’t really reality at all. Sound crazy? Sound impossible – of course it sounds that way, but it is very possible. Atoms are mostly empty spaceThere are things to look for when trying to rule out pareidolia, but you first must start with a base to work with. It is like any scientific experiment where you want to put in place parameters and controls. You need to take the subject your experiment is based on and form your conclusions based on the questions and hypothesis set in place – however, in the paranormal, a hypothesis may as well be a pile of ecto-goo because the paranormal doesn’t really follow any set rules or behaves the same way in order to allow you to predict results – although using your psychic abilities helps a lot more in forming a more successful hypothesis. One of the biggest areas of matrixing that you may find in the paranormal field are faces found in orbs and ectoplasmic mist, as well as on walls. There are a few red flags here. First let's attack orbs – haha – attack orbs. I feel like just the mention of the word 'orbs' brings the word 'conflict' and it is quite ridiculous. Orbs are real paranormal phenomenon – IF you find a real orb. Just because a circle appears on your digital pic or film, doesn’t make it a paranormal orb, but faces in orbs are more than likely matrixing. Many orbs have texture and that texture forms patterns that can turn into faces. Most textured orbs are not paranormal as they are usually something more along the lines of skin, material or dust. Colored orbs are usually moisture and oddly shaped orbs can be bugs or something similar. I’m not saying there aren’t exceptions because in the paranormal world – everything is an exception, so yes, there could be a face in an orb, but the odds of you finding one and then of you filming it is pretty much on the insanely rare side. Then of course there is an exception to even that such as the spirit energy of that orb may want you to see its face. That is a possibility. Orbs usually give off their own light making it look like a solid ball with sometimes a small light trail, but true orbs are energy and energy isn’t always breaming with a full energy circuit. We get tired and our energy runs low – sometimes their energy runs low too, but not usually for the reason why ours does. If you do capture a face in an orb and it just happens to look exactly like dear grandma, well then I’d say you captured a true orb and say hi to grandma! Ectoplasmic mist doesn’t show up very much and I feel like you are more likely to get something like that on a film camera than on a digital, but when you do capture some of it, it is important that you rule out any normal reasons for it before dubbing it paranormal. The mist looks like smoke or sometimes swirly which could seem to make a face appear. More than likely your pareidolia has kicked in. If however, you are on an investigation and you hear a ghost dog barking and then one shows up in your picture – the mist takes on the shape of a dog, and the mist wasn’t from the cold weather, then I would say perhaps you got something there. In the picture above, you can see a dog shape in the mist. This was taken in the winter so it would be safe to say that it was breath; however, on all investigations in the cold, we hold our breath before taking pictures. Not only that but we got an EVP with a dog barking so I believe this to be an authentic picture. Ectoplasmic mist should not be confused with ectoplasm. Ectoplasmic mist should not contain any moisture, but ectoplasm can and usually does consist of a gooey or slimy type of fluid that almost instantaneously disappears so it is almost impossible to get a hold of any of it. I’ve been trying for decades. Another area that isn’t actually new, but newer – is an area of ITC (Instrumental TransCommunication) where you use a camera loop or an elemental source to search for paranormal entities. This method can be highly effective in communication with entities, but it takes many, many years of practice, trial and error to make progress. I have learned through the years that it takes more than just a simple recording session to get the best results and the most out of your session. Channeling energy is very effective in boosting your sessions along with various other factors. Working with portals can be very helpful as well and actually makes a lot of difference; however, it is very dangerous to work with portals if you do not know what you are doing or getting yourself into. Portals – even for experienced people – still come with a price to pay - literally. Little nature spirit on a tree trunk - captured with a special filter.Pareidolia is usually linked to seeing faces and usually not body parts or inanimate objects. Even in the paranormal research world, you get mostly faces because most spirits and entities prefer to show you their face rather than their elbow. Partial apparitions are usually faces, but many times you can see a hand or legs. It is highly doubtful that these body parts would be considered a case of pareidolia. Getting partial body parts is still more common that a full blown apparition, but when you see apparitions, whether a full bodied one or partial – it is probably not pareidolia. Seeing faces in brick or tile – inanimate objects is just the way they are made – a spirit isn’t going to control that. Many people will argue that other objects like trees will fall into this category as well, but there is only some truth in this. Nature spirits are very good at what they do – they control nature, they watch over nature and they nurture nature. They can certainly manipulate the way a tree grows – not to interfere with its free will, but kind of like when a mother gently guides their child. If a tree trunk or a branch looks like it has a face – it can be an expression of what the nature spirit views as the tree’s personality – like a name. If a branch looks like it has an animal on it, perhaps it is the trees way of welcoming the wildlife that it enjoys or perhaps it is a statement of an animal that will chase away a predator of the tree. So in these types of cases – it isn’t the same as when you see a face in your linoleum tile or the bricks in your fireplace. Nature spirits are probably one of the most difficult to discern of all the cases of pareidolia vs paranormal. This is because at times you will see a little nature spirit peeking out behind a leaf but many times, they literally infuse themselves with the object looking like it is part of the actual object, yet that is exactly what it is. Full-bodied apparition - definitely not pareidolia.Even things like faces that appear in clouds – a lot of this could be pareidolia, but this is also one of those hairy situations and a hard call. If you are working with nature spirits once again, then the picture you see in the clouds could be the result of a nature spirit at work. Nature air spirits, otherwise known as Sylphs, use the sky as their canvas. They can convey important messages or maybe they just want to have some playful fun. This of course will be useful information for those who understand what nature spirits are. For those who do not, it will all seem like an interesting or non-interesting coincidence or pareidolia.
Like I said, the world of the paranormal is not normal – the rules and reasoning don’t match our human rules and reasoning. The rules change up all the time and what you think is hardly ever what happens. The paranormal worlds are mysterious and intriguing indeed, but you need an extremely open mind the deeper and deeper you decided to go into that hole. Be warned however, because once you reach a certain point – there is not turning back.
